A pair of Design & Hyde lounge chairs in White Mongolian fur on walnut frames

Our story

Made by two hands, not a production line

An open letter from the studio

Dear you, and your home

Design & Hyde is an independent boutique studio, and every piece we sell is made here, by hand.

We are design-led and quietly proud of it. We buy in the finest Mongolian fur we can find, and everything after that — the frames, the solid wood legs, the hand-applied finishes, the cutting and upholstery — happens at our own bench, one piece at a time. Nothing is held in stock, and nothing is made to fill a warehouse. We make each piece because someone has asked for it.

We love making things that show the craft in them: the way a hide falls over the edge of a bench, the grain coming up through a hand-waxed leg, a colour that changes as the light moves across a room. More than anything, we want our pieces to bring a little joy into the homes and spaces they end up in.

Because to us, HOME is where art and comfort meet. It's the one place you get to curate entirely for yourself, full of things you choose because they move you and things you sink into at the end of a long day. We'd like our work to be both: something you stop to look at, and something you can't wait to curl up on.

If you have a room, a colour or an idea you'd like to talk through, write to us any time at heyharley.shop@gmail.com. We read every message ourselves.

With love, Design & Hyde

Design & Hyde began with one bench, one hide of Mongolian fur, and a stubborn refusal to make the same thing twice.

We are a small London studio making bespoke furniture in genuine Mongolian fur and solid wood. Nothing is held in stock. Every bench, chair, throw and cushion is cut, pieced and finished to the order in front of us — which is why it takes one to four weeks depending on the piece, and why it looks like nothing else in the room.

The fur is bought in, graded by hand and cut to suit each piece. The legs are cut from solid timber and hand-finished in eleven stains. Between twenty-one fur shades and eleven woods, you are unlikely to meet your own piece anywhere else.

Luxurious, and never quite the same twice

01 · The fur

Luxurious, and never quite the same twice

We work with the softest, most sumptuous Mongolian fur we can find — long, silken curls with a pile you sink your hand into. Every length has its own character, so each piece is laid out and cut to make the most of it. No two are ever identical: yours will be entirely its own.

Everything else, made by hand

Everything else, made by hand

Once the fur is in, everything happens here. Each frame is built, each hide cut to fit and upholstered, each seam finished by hand — one piece at a time, only once it has been ordered.

Solid block legs, eleven finishes

Our block leg benches stand on legs cut from solid timber, then stained and waxed by hand through eleven finishes — from Light Oak to Plum Mahogany to Black.

04 · The studio

Handmade in our studio, start to finish

Every piece begins on the studio table: a sketch, a fur swatch, a wood sample, a room you've described to us. From there it is made by hand, by us — the frame built, the legs cut from solid timber and stained and waxed through as many coats as the finish needs, the fur laid out, measured, cut and upholstered so the pile falls just right over every edge.

Nothing is made in advance. We start your piece once you've ordered it, which is why you wait one to four weeks — and why each one leaves the studio having been looked over, brushed through and finished by the same hands that made it.

If you have a room, a measurement or a colour in mind that is not on the site, send it to us. Most of what we make began as somebody else's awkward alcove. We quote within two working days, and we will send you swatches before anything is cut.
